EVENTS

One Bright Star hosts many events throughout the year.

From formal events to creative activities to comforting conversations, OBS tailors and strives to provide a wide variety of events throughout the year in support of grieving families.

Our biggest fundraiser of the year. Heading into our 22nd year, our Celebration of Life Annual Gala is held to draw attention to One Bright Star, celebrate the lives of children and raise funds for our organization to continue its important mission. The event includes a Social Hour, Dinner, Live & Silent Auctions and Entertainment.

This year’s entertainment is provided by Minneapolis Casino and Poker Rentals.

We would love to see you there!

From painting parties to porch pots! One Bright Star hosts the Mother’s of Angels events to bring mothers together in a creative atmosphere. The events last a couple hours and refreshments are served. Mother’s are always free of charge and anyone is welcome to participate. Check back often and follow our facebook page for upcoming events.

Each year, One Bright Star decorates a tree at the Kiwanis Holiday Lights. The tree is adorned with over 350 stars with names of children that have been taken from us too soon.

For this annual, world-wide event held in December, One Bright Star honors and remembers the children taken from us too soon by lighting the pathway at our Children’s Memorial Site with luminaires, each with a child’s name. Over 350 luminaries were lit at the 2023 event.

All are welcome to walk the path and honor and remember the children gone too soon.

Held annually each September at the Children’s Memorial Site at Erlandson Park in Mankato, this service includes music, a speaker, your child’s name being read, and an opportunity to write a message to your child to be released into the memorial pond. Cookies and beverages are served at the event.

One Bright Star has an ofrenda, which is an altar with a collection of objects placed on a ritual display during the annual and traditionally Mexican Día de Muertos celebration, at the Old Town Mankato Day of the Dead Celebration. All are welcome to add their child’s name.

Held annually in June, the One Bright Star Children’s Mini-Camp is an activity-based support program. It assists young people in dealing with grief, enjoying an afternoon of remembrance, and entering a supportive network of others who’ve lost a close loved one.

Free activities for children and teens ages 4-17, a chance to meet new friends, reflect and share about your loved one (sibling, parent, cousin, friend, etc.). Dinner is served and the event concludes with a closing ceremony.

Join us for coffee and conversation at the Starbucks inside the Courtyard by Marriott hotel in Mankato. This is for parents who’ve lost a child. We’ll have some discussion starters, but this is meant to be a relaxing gathering where you can relate to other parents who are going through their own grief journey. Come as you are! Bring a friend if you’d like. We hope to see you there!
